"It was a beautiful day for a hike! The trail was very muddy and we covered in leaves making for a pretty slippery decent. The fire tower needs some work as a lot of the side fencing is missing. It was a beautiful hike over all!" — Heidi Nestved • Oct 29, 2022
"I really disliked this hike - rocks, mud, and roots all the way. Steep the whole way. No good views - cab closed and wire missing around the top levels. Still glad I did it but whew it was a real mental challenge. Bring bug spray! :)
Note: the road leading up to the trailhead was beautifully done, as are the stream crossings!" — stacydedring • Jul 9, 2022
"Muddy and slippery in spots. Bugs swarming but not biting on the way up. Wicked black flies on top. Cabin roof looks dangerous. Hangs over the trail as you come into the tower clearing.Beautiful day and beautiful hike though. Going to go up the tower now. No views from the ground." — melaniehaskell • Jul 7, 2022
"• Climbed 7/19/2021. Hike was 3.8 miles RT plus a 2.4 miles RT bike ride. The elevation gain was 1432 ft for the hike and 320 ft for the bike. The hike took us 1hr23min up and 1hr28min down. The bike was 21min up and 8 mins down. On the hiking portion the trail was very, very wet with water streams along a good portion of the trail with muddy areas and a lot of wet exposed tree routes. It was a straight up climb with very little level areas. The cab was closed and the stair case did not have chicken wire on the upper part of the tower. The view was hazy due to the large wildfires in Oregon that were burning bring smoke across the country. There was an old cabin at the top. Many people (over 10) were hiking on the trail. "Pillsbury was a tough one, with water running down the trail & plenty of mud & wet, slippery rocks. 7.32 miles & 1834 feet of elevation gain. First hike using hiking poles, & they are a game changer!" — EmilyDoucet729 • Jul 5, 2021
"Nice climb,great weather,overall nice trail,small stream,alot of roots,pretty straight foward hike,some rock shoots.Dispointed that cab was closed.But farly decent views little cloudy." — craigjohnson • Jun 27, 2021
"A bad day in the mountains is always better then a good day at work anytime! Out for a solo hike to Pillsbury and Wakely Mountains,, Some Limited views today @ summit altitude, Better at the base, Cabin closed on Pillsbury and open on Wakeley but Wakeley had a lot of ice formed on the top couple levels, Made it sketchy to get in cabin from slippage with wet boots,, Trails were wet with a few muddy areas to be expected " — ramjet1963 • Oct 4, 2019
"The black flies were awful! There was an abundance of snakes and frogs today. Wet and muddy trail conditions and not any views to write home about due to the overcast skies. Jessup River Road, I’ll be glad to never drive again if I don’t have to! A nice solo trip out and 27/30 complete! " — scottturner • Jun 29, 2019
"On my way up to Lake Placid, for the 46er dinner, I took the scenic route and climbed Pillsbury. It was a cloudy and rainy day but that didn't make the forest any less beautiful." — Right-On • May 27, 2018
"Trail conditions were wet and muddy from previous night's rain but weather was fine the day of the hike with breaking sun and minimal bugs. The wetness made the hike a little longer than usual but the summit view from the tower are great!" — Gregrog • Jul 15, 2017
