"Started from the athletic fields at Yucaipa High School. From there, I formed a loop of the hills. I went briefly off the loop to visit Crafton Benchmark. Afterwards, I crossed over the two Zanja peaks before looping back on the City Trail. " — MikeTeeples • Mar 1, 2025

"This hike was quite nice and started at 8:45 AM. I climbed up the road and eventually some smaller trails, and the farther up I went, the nicer views J got. Then I went up some steeps and went around a peak, then down a very steep hill and then up another. Once I was in a high meadows section, it was a little windy and I summited a peak, which had okay views and a marines flag. Then I traversed over to Zanja Peak, which had a sign and a survey benchmark. The views were also nice, then I went down the easy way, which was winding and switchbacks as I headed down past some nice views. Then I finished the loop, and then found out MY Car got broken into and the stole my gramps jacket. Now $300 down the drain in repairs. " — lc444 • Dec 28, 2024

"I attempted to summit Zanja Peak on the Zanja peak trailhead and I got pretty close but it was during the super hot heatwave in early September it quickly reached 100 degrees plus by 10 am so I was forced to turn back but I summited the ridge and the views where amazing all around
Elevation gain was 947 feet

"Nice cool morning for a peak hike. Reached a few false summits before reaching the Zanja Peak benchmark. I had spent a good amount of time on the previous summit thinking that it was Zanja. Afterwards, I planned to do the loop hike back into Yucaipa Regional Park. In reaching the next summit on the loop, I found the Zanja Peak benchmark. I guess I was a bit premature in my conquest! Completed the loop from there well before noon." — MikeTeeples • Jan 27, 2018

"Easy road hike, for the most part. The benchmarks were easy to find (both Crafton and Zanja), but the official USGS benchmark for Zanja was gone. There was an unofficial one at Zanja Peak, however, and I'm not super picky about what I'll accept as a claimable benchmark." — jimduvall • Apr 6, 2014

"We needed a cache for today to fill in our geocaching calendar, but did not have a lot of time. We made the trip up to Crafton Hills again today. Though we have been hiking in the area many times, this was the first trip up to Zanga peak. I thought there would be a benchmark there, disappointed it was only a triangulation point that we cannot log. Anyway, nice hike & great views!" — Sierrawildflower • Mar 11, 2012
