"A little trek to bag a few tors…. The weather was high winds and heavy rain, with occasional 0 visibility due to low cloud base (hence very few photos)…. But, we still managed to get to Row Tor, West Mill Tor, Yes Tor, High Willhays and Dinger Tor….." — chriscollings-UK • Aug 12, 2023
"Starting the day in tshirt and shorts heading up to Rowtor and then leaving Rowtor in full waterproofs was not the original plan but onwards across the target railway and up over West Mill Tor before following the track up to the high points of Yes Tor and High Willhays. No visibility at all whilst at Yes Tor but at High Willhays the sky parted and sun and far reaching views were uncovered. Couple more nearby bagged before heading down to Dinger Tor and following the military road back to Rowtor Car Park. 13.4km. Rain/Mist. Solo. " — MuchMoorWalking • Jul 30, 2022
"This little walk to Dartmoor's highest peaks from Belstone started as a solo overnighter but I'm glad to say I had a visitor by way of my good mate Dave Vaughan. I don't mind solo camping but its nicer to have company and a chat especially when the other person is so knowledgeable about camping, walking and the Moors.
Day one started a little later than planned but I did manage to pitch my tent before it got dark. The walk past the Belstone Ridge was awesome as it is the first time I've seen it without the mist covering it over. The rivers and streams were running full due to the heavy rain we have been experiencing lately.
The walk up to Yes Tor was a gentle stroll due to the MOD tracks and roads making this walk easily achievable by most walkers but care must be taken due to the very changeable weather experienced on the Moors, it can change without warning.
Once on Yes Tor I pitched just in time as it started to rain. My home for the night was just below the Tor overlooking the Belstone Ridge.
It rained for a few hours and this was followed by some very blustery 40 MPH winds well into the night. My good friend Dave arrived at 23:15 after what must of been a draughty ..." — mikebright • Feb 17, 2018
"I walked to Yes tor from Okehampton Camp, via Oke Tor,Okement Hill and High Willhays whilst taking part in the Jubilee challenge the weather was wet, misty and cold cleared up later. " — maxharmer • May 13, 2017
"From Meldon reservoir car park, climbed 400m peak directly south then headed on to climb Black Tor. Then cut across boggy marsh up to High Willhays. Then on to Yes Tor and back to the reservoir." — vygodski • Apr 8, 2017
"My Bombardier Leadership course was carried out in Plymouth and around Dartmoor. I also spent a few weeks on Military excercise in and around the Moors. Okehampton was our basecamp, along with many other bivy areas around DTA (Dartmoor Training Area) spent many hours, both day and night, tabbing around Dartmoor in the cold and wet......it was ALWAYS cold and wet !!.
A beautiful area though, one day, I'd love to go back under my own guidance, and appreciate the moors in my own time. " — HikingViking • Apr 7, 1997
