"9.16.23~ A Toasty 🔥 3 Peaks Combo Meal Well Done. Mtn Springs, Windy & Hollow Rock in that Order. This solo Started at 12:15pm~10 miles, 2,341’ gain in 4:28hrs. I didn’t fuss this time on Hollow Rock…went right up and down when I arrived. I haven’t done much endurance, just gym stuff, so I was happy I moved well all day and felt strong. Was nice to roam around. " — paula.raimondi • Sep 16, 2023
"What an awesome outing .Some very fun sandstone scrambling. It would be tragic to follow someone else’s line up here. Just come out here and let the sandstone tell you where to go. Hollow rock had a fixed line on the summit block that could be avoided if one wanted. " — joshortman • Nov 28, 2022
"Had a great time hiking this from Late Night Trailhead. Route finding wasn't too bad as it was pretty well cairned. There is one spot where you have to turn left and hop some boulders, although it is tempting to stay straight toward Windy Peak, but that won't work. Lots of Class 2 scrambling and maybe some Class 3. There is some exposure as you climb up the south face of Windy Peak, although it is hardly extreme. " — LukeyPukey • Aug 24, 2019
"A not so Windy day on Windy peak. Took a few people out and started right before the communication tower. Had a front wheel drive vehicle and managed to make it to the top of the road area, with minimal trouble. The loose rock at the top was the worst of it. There is also a lot of construction in the Spring Mountain area, so the trailhead is really easy to miss right now. Luckily there is a light not far afterwards, if you need to turn around.
The hike itself had a lot more up and down than I realized, but all and all, not terrible. Found out that the area also has wild horses and ticks. My spouse found one on their hat. After you get to the top of the Class3 block, the peak flattens out and the way to the registry/summit is pretty well kairned. Even if it wasn't, it wouldn't be hard to find a way there. "Namaste...
Quickie Windy Peak workout in 1:31hr. Up the yucky hill to the ridge in 18:45min...peak in :49. I saw a cute mini dinosaur meditating on top. I was tempted to join in but I had to get back to my chores." — paula.raimondi • Apr 27, 2018
"I wanted a nice scrambling challenge, so we decided to try Windy Peak via Branch Whitney's 'East Face' route. There were some difficult, exposed class 4 moves and a lot of scrambling. When we reached the crux of the route, we noticed Harlan on the summit - he had approached from the west. He came down to offer assistance. 3 of the 6 that started up with us decided to wait there. While the moves were definitely within everyone's ability, they just weren't feeling it at the time. Amber, Nish and I joined up with Harlan and made the final climb up to the peak. Harlan also came back down with us to that spot on the way down to offer anyone who wanted to hike out the easy way with him a ride.
For the descent, we took the same route for a while, then branched off on another route a bit further north that Richard Natale had pioneered and told me about. I definitely think Branch's route was more fun. Richard's route was not well traveled and had a lot of brush and loose rock. It might have been more fun to ascend, but the descent wasn't great. Poor Amber was a cholla magnet :(" — Kevin • Apr 21, 2018
"Led 10 hikers from the Overweight Hikers meetup up the steep loose trail from Mountain Springs. 5.4 miles, 1400 feet of elevation gain. Did it in under 4 hours, which for us is a good time. Valentine's treats were enjoyed at the summit." — cardsfanlv • Feb 14, 2015
"Great short hike from Mountain Springs TH with the 52 Peak/Hiking Las Vegas meetup, led by Dinorah. Beautiful morning, and not actually Windy at Windy Peak. The only thing that sucked about the route was there is a bit of uphill on the return trip. " — cardsfanlv • May 10, 2014
"Hiked up to Windy Peak from Mountain Springs Trailhead, then traversed over to Black Velvet Peak, then back up the ridge to Mountain Springs Peak, before finally following the limestone ridge back down. Over 9 miles & almost 3,800 ft of elevation gain." — Kevin • Mar 9, 2012
