"Petey and I drove over to the Stonetown recreation center on a beautiful, clear and sunny morning to ascend the Windbeam peaks. Ours was the only car in the lot. From the lot, we walked across the street where we found the entrance to the Stonetown Circular trail (red blazes) about 50 feet away on our left. The trail goes in about 200 ft. before making a right. The red trail then climbs gradually between Stonetown road and Little Windbeam. The first quarter mile of that stretch is in pretty bad shape, with fallen trees, and many large branches strewn across it. I discovered a connector trail leading up from Stonetown Road which, had we taken it, would have allowed us to avoid the debris filled portion of the trail. However, we would have had to walk south on Stonetown for over a quarter mile to get to that point, and that winding road can get quite busy. At that intersection, the trail was in much better shape, and we continued to circle around the southern base of Little Windbeam. "Just an excuse to play in all of the snow Winter Storm Stella left in my neck of the woods. Windbeam is a short, steep climb with excellent views year-round, even on a grey day like today. The 14+ inches of snow and good company was icing on the cake. " — wacbravo • Mar 15, 2017
