14.33 miles total. 4,702 vert. Ben Lomond Peak + bonus of Willard Peak.
Made a friend at the trailhead due to shared frustration at the trailhead parking situation. Apparently the Cutler Trailhead in North Fork Park doesn't open until 7 am. If you want to start earlier, it's about 2 miles straight uphill from the roadside parking "winter access" to the trailhead. We both opted to wait. The closest parking from the "trailhead" is a half mile away from the trailhead, turning what is listed as a 10-mile hike, into an 11-mile hike.
We both hiked our own hike, frequently hiking together, but also taking turns passing each other and catching up the whole way to Ben Lomond. We ate lunch together, and took photos of each other and together at the top.
Here, we split ways. She called it quits at Ben Lomond, and hiked back to the cars. I made the potentially foolhardy decision to jump over to Willard Peak, adding just under 4-miles total onto my trek. "Hiked along the ridge from the North (I parked about 2 miles north of Willard Peak, where the road divides to either go to Willard Basin or Grizzly Peak) and then dropped down into Willard Basin, then snow climbed up a couloir to get to the base of the summit, then scrambled up to the summit and then came down along the side of the summit ridge to meet up with the trail, then pretty much took the trail back to the Willard Basin road and followed the road back to my car." — tomsenreed • Jun 5, 2015
"What a fun day. I actual approached this Peak from the East side and scrambled up through the cliffs. In doing this I discovered that this is where a lot of the Goats up here like to bed down. I was able to bag Willard and Ben in the same trip. This is a great area to hike. On this day I have to admit I came from Inspiration point parking area, but I can say that I have bagged both peaks coming from the Divide as well. " — CacheMACS • Aug 30, 2014
