"Started from the parking area outside Green Valley Campground. I walked through the campground and picked up Forest Route 2N13 at a 4 way junction (I took the middle route). The hike was mostly a pleasant stroll along the forest road. At about 3.5 miles, the road elevated to the edge of a ridge, where there is a parking area with a commemorative sign about the history of why it is called West Point. I climbed past the boulders beyond the sign and found a long retired Jeep road. I followed it to the 7451 high point. However, there was a higher point on the ridge to the west that I felt that I needed to visit. Perhaps because it was an easy hike to this point, I felt the need to make it more of a challenge. I dropped down a gully and quickly rose to near the high point. However, there were boulders needing to get climbed over which were surrounded by large patches of buckthorn. Once I worked my way through it, I stood next to the summit boulders on top (my altimeter logged it at around 7480). I returned the way I came. Saw two jeeps on the day and no hikers." — MikeTeeples • Aug 22, 2020
