Bitter Spring Peak, 2,096’, 2,234’, Longwell Arch Peak, East Longwell Ridge South, East Longwell Ridge HP, The Raven, West Longwell Ridge HP, 2,865’ and West Longwell Peak 2,890’. 10 miles of this route is all Ridge Surfin. The Hardest part was getting from East LW HP to The Raven. I had to downclimb an exposed ledge system but the rock was grippy. With a 10:35 am start I was under the gun...Nighttime caught me on the final ridge but I found my way through the darkness. An exquisite Sunset was my reward at the 10th and final peak. An Epic Full Wolf Moonrise cheered my finish. Great day. One of the most difficult and satisfying Ridge Surfing I’ve ever done. Military war games were going on for a while. "My Jeep is finally all fixed up, so I can hang out in the NE Muddies again. Yay! The Bitterspring Road from Redstone is pretty rough right now. I went back out the other way which comes out below Boathouse Cove Road. That section is much better, though Bitter Spring is very wet & flowing right now, so expect to drive through fairly deep water in places. I had been over most of this ridge, so wanted to complete it with this one. One can get a bit closer by taking an unmarked road back between the Longwell Ridges, but I wanted to add some distance, so parked on the Bitterspring Road & hiked back. It would be a great traverse to do the whole ridge at once. I hiked right along the bottom of the ridge & went up right under the summit on the east side. I hiked both ways across the whole top of the ridge, then descended off the north side, then east back into the valley to make a loop of sorts. This area has great geology & I saw many fossils, as usual. Saw a herd of sheep too. Lovely weather & a very nice day!" — StudioHoodoo • Feb 8, 2020
