"We took the standard route to Hamblin, making a short side trip to J.A.C.A.L. Peak, which I hadn't been to (Barry skipped this one). 5 hikers (2 of which were on our hike today) previously named this point using the first letter of each of their first names. From Hamblin, we went down the steep west side to the saddle, then all but Barry & Justine went up to West Hamblin, which nobody else in our group had been to other than myself. After returning to the gully, we descended north down another loose gully to the valley below, then made our way to the shoulder of Basalt Peak, where Justine & Barry peeled off and went down, while the rest of us trudged up to the summit, making this a nice 4-peak day. We took a different drainage down, which was nice. What a fun group we had today!" — Kevin • Dec 22, 2018
"A beautiful day with great weather. We parked at the pullout for Hamblin Mountain. Followed the trail up to the saddle, and took a short detour to J.A.C.A.L. peak (hopefully added into Peakery soon!). From there, we traversed back down to the saddle and up Hamblin Mountain. From Hamblin, we dropped down on the West side and made our way down to the saddle between Hamblin and West Hamblin, and then back up to West Hamblin - the most challenging of the three peaks. A lot of loose rock (and some rotten rock) on West Hamblin, but the ridgeline/edge was quite sturdy. From West Hamblin, we returned to the saddle and dropped down into a wash and followed it until we reached Basalt peak. We more or less went straight up the side of Basalt Peak. From there, we dropped down the side and jumped a few washes until we returned to the original Hamblin mountain trail. " — psychikingjes • Dec 22, 2018
"Instead of fighting the crowds on Black Friday, we decided to #optoutside & hiked to Hamblin Mountain instead. From the summit, a couple of us traversed over to West Hamblin, descended the NE Gully to the valley, then hiked East back to the main trail, catching up to the group about a mile before the cars. Fun day!" — Kevin • Nov 27, 2015
