"Welch-Dickey loop, counterclockwise - there was a lot of ice, under a thin layer (thick in some places) of snow. I don’t think I could have done it without my microspikes and hiking poles" — AmyScrambles • Nov 27, 2021

"Nora, and I took Aracellys, Jeff, Kali and Brooklyn up Welch Mountain and across to Dickey Mountain.
It was a warm day and sunny.
Nice views. Lots of other people and dogs on the mountains.
It was the second time up these mountains for Nora, Kali and me." — Hufflepuff • Oct 14, 2021

"Great day doing the Welch-Dickey Loop. Nice and cool (sub 70 degrees with light breeze). Hiked with a Kurt. Only took about two and a half hours, footing was great as it has been so dry." — mattgardner • Aug 15, 2020

"Hiked the Welch-Dickey Loop Tr counterclockwise, per multiple online recommendations. We felt we made the right choice, as the angle of many of the slabs on the way up would have made for a tricky and uncomfortable descent. It was a very humid morning, but the temperature remained fairly comfortable. Thankfully, the cloud cover was thick but high, allowing for a nice shield from the sun as well as uninterrupted views. And they were amazing. And plentiful! Well worth the time and sweat. The trail mostly varied between pleasant woodsy terrain and fairly steep slabs with amazing views. At least half the hike is very exposed, so once again, I was glad for a hat and sunscreen. " — gooner • Aug 2, 2020

"Arrived at the trailhead around 7:20 a.m. and there were 7 or 8 cars there. Climb through the lower forest was very humid and the buzzing insects were kept at bay with a quick application of DEET. At the overlook, there was a small amount of undercast in the Waterville Valley which was quickly dissipating. The slow, relentless hike up the granite ledges was ht in the sun and had to beware of very slick spots caused by the algae growth in persistent water runoff. One thing I love about this hike is that when I got winded and wanted to take a break on the slabs, a look around gave some of the nicest views I've seen in the White Mountains. There was a nice cooling breeze when I arrived at the summit and took a break. I decided to head back down the way I come rather than attempt the climb up Dickey mountain. This was a mistake. The granite ledges are far tougher going down than up. Next time, I'll just complete the entire loop rather than do an out and back hike. On the way back down, there were about 35-40 people congregating at the overlook and an almost steady conga line from the parking lot up to the overlook ledge. Maybe about 25% of the hikers had masks. There was mo..." — rjnick • Jul 4, 2020

"Went to these two peaks with Nora and Kali. Hiked up the Welch trail over Welch Mountain and down to the col, then up to the summit of Dickey Mountain and down the Dickey trail to the parking lot.
There were quite a few people hiking these trails and the summit of Welch had several people hanging out all over it, so we just took a picture or two (mostly with all the people in them) and continued over to Dickey to sit out of the way with the views and have lunch.
Numerous people passed by while we were having our lunch and once we were done, we meandered down, enjoying the many amazing views from the ledges we were on most of the time.
We did see a pretty snake somewhere on the way up Welch that allowed us to take pictures of it. The autumn colors were amazing!
It was a great hike and one I would highly recommend. " — Hufflepuff • Oct 9, 2019

"Solo hike on dickey Welch for 52wav. A beautiful morning...nearly 70!
I would say I would have preferred more markings...and I would say that the first half of his loop was a bit intense. " — shay-shay • Oct 19, 2016

"Summited as part of the Welch-Dickey loop. Rainy, dreary day an unfortunately didn't get to experience the awesome view. Wet ledge up top was difficult to climb in the rain." — kpreston21 • Jul 26, 2015

"Hiked along with Dickey Mountain. This is a good workout, especially on a hot day like last Saturday. There are some very easy bits through the woods, then fairly steep ledges. Not difficult, but you'll feel the burn in your calves. Gorgeous views of the southern White Mountains." — RSperling • Jul 11, 2015

"We found another awesome NH day hike! This was described as a "classic New England hike" and was maybe our most enjoyable yet. The ascent up was gradual and provided spectacular views almost 30 minutes in with open ledges and lots of rock face. Do note that this is a perfect sunny hike, but I would not want to be on these rock slabs in any wet conditions. Be sure to check the weather before you head out! We reached the shorter peak of Welch first which provided a view of both the open ledge we had found on our way up and Dickey still ahead of us. We took a short break to refuel and headed on our way towards the second peak. It was only about a half mile hike and we had reached the second peak, with a view looking back where we had just hiked..which was pretty cool!!! We got a late start so it was about 4pm and we needed to hurry down towards the trail head. We hustled down the ridge which which offered a gorgeous view and then back down into the trees to finish of an awesome hike! It was a perfect hike: great views, some scrambling, a ridge, and just about 3 hours of total hiking time...perfect for a day trip from Boston!" — KDRupert3 • Jun 30, 2012
