Highlights

  • Izalco is a stratovolcano on the southern flank of the Santa Ana volcano in Cerro Verde National Park in western El Salvador.
  • Erupted almost continuously from 1770 (when it formed) to 1958, earning it the nickname of "Lighthouse of the Pacific".
  • The last eruption was 1966. The volcano is currently quiescent but may erupt again.
  • Climbed regularly and is a national icon of the country.
