"With Mountain Ventures party. We walked up path to Edelweiss restaurant and then to point 2665m. On path south west and then west roughly contouring. Impressive views all round, especially of Matterhorn. We left the path and walked ~ north up blocks and scree to reach a small lake. Anne Jago and I were teamed up with guide Pete Blackburn. We set off first and climbed a wide couloir up scree, stones and some snow to reach Gabel Notch. Scree frozen low down as in shade. Roped up halfway up couloir and moved together. We climbed up the ridge to Unter Gabelhorn. Several pitches of grade II climbing, going to right of crest. We climbed down the same way. Pete and I ran down the lower part of the scree to the small lake. Weather cloudless all day." — peter43 • Aug 8, 1983
