"4.16.24~3.2 miles, 1,000’ gain in 1:34hr from hwy. Quick workout before work. Found the reg. this time. I forgot it was small. I didnt have to practice up and down this time. Was confident at the memorization. had less butterflies in stomach on top but not enough less to enjoy a snack. Next time. Pretty day. It’s getting warm. " — paula.raimondi • Apr 16, 2024
"Mainly this a condition report. I was on this route about 1.5 years before. As of 4/14/2024, the canyon has more water than usual, so there may be more creative routing around the pools. There is obvious evidence of the floods last September and after, and there seem to be many fewer cairns. This is at least my 12th time, by many different routes; the other routes may be technically harder, but this one can be exhausting in high water condition, mainly due to the bouldering through Oak Creek. "I went out to see if I could get up the ridge to this peak via a neat-looking canyon out of Valley of Fire. I parked at the Arrowhead Trailhead & followed the trail for a way before cutting into the canyon. The canyon was absolutely gorgeous, one of my favorites in the Muddies so far. It did go to the top. I then decided to go for a prominent ridge up the peak which didn't look too bad from the bottom... It was really rough, with lots of class 2+ & 3 scrambling. The rock was very solid, but also very sharp. I kept thinking I was getting to the summit, but I'd get up a bump & discover it kept going. I finally got to what I was sure was the summit, only to discover it wasn't...again! A deep split in the ridge prevented me from getting to the summit, though my gps track looks like I was on it. I descended the very steep & loose south face, rather than the ridge. I then dropped into a gully & a wash below/south of Peak 3228. I followed this to an easier descent route off the ridge which I discovered when I climbed Peak 3228. I wanted a better gps track of this route, since Gaia wasn't working on my first trip there. If I go back to try this peak again, I'll go up to the saddle on the S..." — StudioHoodoo • Apr 14, 2024
"4.11.24~3.4 miles, 1,000’ gain, 1:53hr. This weather! I took the abbreviated approach from the hwy. I didn’t see a register this time. I did a few up and down repeats to memorized steps before going to the top since there is no rope. Always feels creepy. " — paula.raimondi • Apr 11, 2024
"I took a rough road not quite two miles long off the Kane Springs Road & camped a couple of nights up there on the edge of the Wilderness. What a pretty area! I hiked up through rolling ridges to reach the mountain. It's volcanic, so very steep & loose. I took different routes up & down, both very steep! " — StudioHoodoo • Apr 10, 2024
