California mountains highlights
- The Sierra Nevada is the most famous California mountain range, stretching over 400 miles from north to south. In it lies the highest mountain in the lower 48 US States, Mount Whitney at 14,505 ft / 4,421 m.
- California contains many mountainous National Parks, the most well-known being Yosemite National Park. The other national parks include Pinnacles, Lassen Volcanic, Kings Canyon, Joshua Tree, Redwood, Channel Islands, and Death Valley.
- California boasts 12 peaks over 14,000 ft elevation, concentrated in the Eastern Sierras.
- The massive Cascade volcano Mount Shasta 14,180 ft dominates the northern California landscape and can be seen from over 100 miles away.

"I started from the trailhead in the neighborhood and then I passed through the waterfall by a submerged dam. The trail was decent and then crossed over Santiago creek later. Then I went up the windes nature trail and then there was decent views. Then I climbed up the Pacifica trail, and the summit had nice views. The historic dam was a nice waterfall and I went over the creek and crossed the sour grass meadow. Then I went up to the peralta hills trail, which had some mustard flowers. The I went up the summit of the Robber's Roost. Then I climbed up to the summit on the steep us trail. The views were the best in the park. Then I went down to the flag pole, which had decent views. Then I climbed barham deer peak, which had decent views. Then I went down Barham ridge to Lookout peak. It had a sign and a bike pump on the summit. It had decent views. I went down the mountain goat trail and then went down the Bumble bee trail. Then I climbed back up the ridge and then summited grasshopper mountain. It had decent views and then continued down the grasshopper trail. the ridge had nice views. Then I went by the historic dam and the Heritage oak was a nice view. Then I went the way I came. "Clark Mountain you kicked my butt today. We chose to go up and down the class 2 route because we had our dog. The peak has awesome views as for the hike I think I managed to put my hand in every cactus along the route. Even with the cactus this was another perfect day and a great way to end desert peak bagging season before it gets too hot. " — maggielynn • Apr 16, 2024
