"Route going up the ridge visits plane crash site. Getting to the crash site and from there to the ridge probably wasn't an optimal route, but it worked. On the ridge there is one short spot we traversed the left side that was a pretty exposed short class 3 bit. Later we dropped to the left side from the ridge navigating below it. We climbed back up a bit I'd call hard class 3 / easy class 4 that was about 40-50ft going straight up. This bypasses a section I had seen in other routes that had a traverse on the ridge that required you to navigate a narrow down-sloping ramp. I don't think I'd want to down climb this bit (unless you used a rope/webbing to assist). From here a little more short class 3 climbing and anything remaining was class 2. Going down the west side was pretty straightforward, but as we got back near our vehicle, the route I chose was a bit brushy and loose. There might be a better path there. "Trailrun exploring the maze of trails at Shell Ridge OSP. Alternated rain and sunbursts in a green playground of trail loops up, over, and around bright green peaklets that looked like terrariums from a kid's elementary school project. Managed to make it without biting it even though most of the way was like skating in mud... downhills were like skiing down brown pow. " — scott • Mar 23, 2024

"I had seen this pretty mountain a few weeks earlier & knew then that I wanted to climb it from the Jubilee Pass side on the south ridge. I started at the Rhodes Spring cabin & started up a beautiful wash filled with spring flowers. Everything was really green. Next, I headed up through the colorful foothills. This part required some route finding. Eventually, I got to the main ridge. This entire hike is loose & much of it is really steep. It alternates between gravel, scree & talus. It was exhausting, but so pretty. The yellowish sections are the loosest. I think I had more issues coming back down, but hiking poles helped immensely. On the summit, a packrat in the summit cairn rocks startled me! He was kinda cute though. The mountain is also covered in geodes, chalcedony roses & other crystals. The views from the top are stunning over Death Valley. I could see Telescope, the Spring Mountains & many more. I hadn't done anything this hard in some time & I was ridiculously slow, but enjoyed it immensely." — StudioHoodoo • Mar 17, 2024
