"Short loop hike of about two miles using the blue trail up to the summit then using the white trail to return to the car. Trails were mostly dry with the worst wet spots on the lower sections of the blue trail but they were easily crossed with prudent foot placements on rocks, logs etc.
The view down to the NYC was nice kind of like an oasis in a desert." — Nimblefoot • Apr 5, 2024
"A two mile loop hike of Turkey mountain ascending on the white trail then descending via the blue trail. Checking on my recovery from long lingering cold symptoms and testing positive for Flu A and RSV….not exactly 100% yet….very frustrating. Surprised the parking lot was full and some cars were parked along the access road so late in the afternoon. Luckily two cars were pulling out as I arrived allowing me to park. "The cloudy wet morning slowly morphed into a more promising afternoon with moments of sun and blue sky peeking through the clouds. I decided to get out of the house and stretch the legs a bit so off to Turkey Mountain Nature Park I went. Twenty minutes later I found plenty of parking and was off red lining all the trails, from white to purple. Nice summit view." — Nimblefoot • Nov 1, 2022
"Out visiting some local peaks. First up was Turkey mountain, which I’ve done only once, via a loop of the short and direct white trail and the longer less steep blue trail. Cars were coming into the Nature park from out of state like Ct and NJ, some folks seem to be going far and wide to get in a “local” hike. Next up was a quick romp up to Anthony’s Nose for nice view up and down the River and over the Bear Mtn bridge. A little tricky finding parking along Rt 9D, a hot spot for hiking in the valley. Surprisingly up on the nose I had the open ledge to myself despite the numerous cars below, not sure where everyone went, but I’ll take it. To finish my day I hopped across the River to head up to Black Rock forest for a jaunt up to Whitehorse mountain. Didn’t see a soul on the short hike so no need for any awkward social distancing." — Nimblefoot • Apr 16, 2020
"This is one of the "mountains" that we always find time to take a quick after lunch hike up when I am home to visit NY. It's easy, family friendly and I have been going up it since I was in about 3rd grade when we took a field trip here. This is the also last trip I took with my best childhood friend before we both were enlisted. RIP David Fahey." — Derek-S • Oct 31, 2008
