Day 17 of my JMT section hike. This was a great trip. Barnard was formerly considered a 14er before the USGS corrected the elevation and used to be climbed much more frequently. Now it gets only a few parties a year which is a shame considering the easy but beatiful route and epic views from the summit. From our camp along Wright Creek, we went up the northern part of the SW ridge until above treeline. From there it is a class 1-2 walk up the long SW ridge to the summit. We continued down the NW face into the bowl between Trojan and Barnard and then up a steep but short S face of Trojan. The views of the Williamson Bowl area from Trojan are almost as impressive as the views of the Whitney area from Barnard. Overall, a wonderful, remote day in the mountains.
