"Good snow conditions for cramponing up the steeper sections. This is a much easier climb with snow.. Make sure you take a good track since there are several critical turns you will need to make in order to not get off course" — bryangharris • Jun 4, 2020
"Logging a summit attempt from the summer. Found the start of the trail just fine right before Dingford Creek Trailhead (summit post and WTA had a couple of good descriptions. Climbers trail goes straight up the ridge and peters out in rock where route finding becomes very difficult. Rather than stay on the ridgeline and staying high on a north/northwest track, we dropped a bit west (looked easier) and then had to come back up to get the the plateau with the tarn above Upper Garfield Lake. We could see the lake below, but it's at least a 500 foot drop, and we were east of the lake instead of south, which meant having to backtrack and drop through a scree field. This would have only gotten to the lake and then we would have had to have gotten to Charlie Brown Lake and then attempt Treen - wasn't going to happen that day so we relaxed at the tarn.
Good beta from this attempt. We will be back next year to start very early (sleep in the car?) and avoid the route finding mistakes of this year. Zero people and very cool area, especially so near Garfield.
