"Black dog and I left the Putnam Pond trailhead at 9:30 under cloudy skies with wind in the teens @ 27 degrees. The trail was unbroken with 6-8 inches of fresh powder. About 1/4 mile in I decided to cross the frozen pond and with GPS found my way up the other side and bushwacked up to the main Treadway trail. This saved about a mile round trip. Trail was well marked until it opens up neat the top 1/4 of the trail. Cairns were covered in snow and markers were scarce. Used GPS several times to relocate the trail. Summited about noon. View was sketchy with blowing snow. Returned at 1:30." — garyogden • Feb 27, 2022

"Nice warm-up to the final mile! Quite the climb after that! Got turned around on the top somehow on the way down and ended up back on the top after @1/2 hour. CRAZY! Great views from Treadway! This trail is 7.8 Miles round trip from the Putnam Pond Campground trailhead!" — Retiredtop2004 • May 27, 2021

"Parked at the boat launch at Putnam Pond & snowshoed across the pond to the trailhead. I lost the trail in the upper sections, but
managed to bushwhack & retrieve it soon after. The views of Pharaoh Mt. & the surrounding landscape were incredible." — billsussdorff • Feb 22, 2019

"Gorgeous day, my wife and I took our 2 dogs on this one!(There 1st long one, 8 miles RT) The weather has been mild and dry, the leaves are still changing, I love this hike! One of my favorites in the Daks! The views from the top are awesome! " — hbotc • Oct 22, 2017

"Awful. Just awful. After having been swarmed by mosquitos as soon as I entered the woods, I quickly sprayed my hair, exposed skin, and long sleeve shirt & pants with bug spray. To be completely honest, I don't recall much of the hike other than me wildly flailing like a wacky waving inflatable tube man because the deer flies were in such abundance so absolutely vicious that they ruined my entire hike. It was all I could focus on. I did notice a lot of red efts. A LOT of red efts as I was hike-jogging. There was a large scale trail re-route at some point on the trail due to flooding. There was a beaver pond. And there were deer flies. Did I mention the deer flies? Yeah, even at the summit in the sunshine with a slight breeze, intolerable. I have welts all over my body. The view was nice, not that I could enjoy it. Won't be coming back to this area in the summertime. If nothing else, it was good exercise, including for my arms which never stopped moving in a futile attempt to protect my head and neck from being bitten to shreds. " — kellieirene • Aug 3, 2017

"Albany ADK hike led by Fred Schroeder.
After two beautiful days of 80 degree weather it was disappointing to have overcast, cool, rainy conditions, but fall foliage along the trail was nice. I especially enjoyed the enthusiasm of two fifth grade girls for nature, including birchbark, etc." — barbaratraver • Oct 8, 1990
