"This route is becoming one of my favorites...especially after a rain storm. The tanks were full and clean. The attached track had some more difficult variations added to the route as well as a little side trip exploration after the last peak, Peak 4570. " — Heartattackbruce • Feb 23, 2024
"We summit the first peak, Chrysler Crack Peak, directly up from the Sandstone Quarry Parking lot (that section of the track is missing). The track that I attached is for directional purposes only. With the route finding that we had to do we were off of the best route a little here and there while we were looking for a way to proceed. As a backup on a couple of descents we used webbing, but afterwards realized that it wasn't necessary. Not a long route, only about 4 miles, but lots of interesting climbs and descents which means a lot of ups and downs. " — Heartattackbruce • Jan 24, 2024
"random wander around Calico. Added Mainly so there is a convenient 6-peak loop. The easiest route is class 2. The southeast side of this peaklet is Trophy Wall, where climbers do bolted 5.12 routes. There is no direct route from Tinaja Peak, except via rappel.." — hwstock • Nov 18, 2023
"I normally do the 1st peak without gear, but have had a hard time convincing other to go with me. This report shows it can be made safe with 100' rope and friction knots or ascenders (and someone willing to lead)." — hwstock • Feb 1, 2022
"10.13.2020~5 peaks, 6.2 mile, 3,000’ gain, 5hr (95%) Scramble in the Calico Hills. Red Book, Calico Tank East and West, Red Cap & Tinaja Peaks. Hot Fall Day. With an 11:30am start, 85 deg. and no breeze, it was an inferno on the sandstone. Lots of practice on exposed creepy ledges and class 3-4 climbing. I had some navigational issues on the 1st peak but after that, I got in a flow. I had to ration my water towards the end. Had the place all to myself! I’m beat! https://youtu.be/jt-YwR9uoMA" — paula.raimondi • Oct 13, 2020
"4.17.2020, solo. 10.5 miles, 2,400’ gain run, scramble, 4:13hrs. Red Cap Double Slot Route, Tinaja Peak with a Post Apocalyptic RR Scenic Loop run finish. Rogue wave, non compliant 159 Hwy access to these gemz. Great workout. The silence was so special. To see this area with this type of quiet and solitude was decadent and spectacular. The Calico Basin Residents must be in Heaven!....Fuck your road block. I earned my way in.

"3.30.2020~4 peak solo scramble from Calico Basin. Red Cap Double slot (with a 3rd top slot descent), Calico Tanks East and West Summits and Tinaja Peak. 7.5 miles, 2,800’ gain, 4:55hrs. I wore a doubled up buff over my face for the 1st and last miles near the non-social distancing masses who are in big groups and think it’s vacation time. I picked up trash on the way down Ash canyon. The animals and quiet have taken over Red Rock. I meditated and napped on Red Cap. Amazing. Felt great to do some epic scrambling and running in the warm sunshine. I think they will close Calico Basin. They should. The crowds are non compliant. I won’t go back. I will scramble on the less traveled routes to the summits off 159 and travel to Lovell canyon for Bridge Mtn. I will also work on my White Pinnacle Peak solo and get my 1st Rainbow Peak ascent. Solo.

"This small peak was actually a lot of fun! Mike & I needed a short day, so we headed out to Red Rock to do a couple short scrambles. Headed up the SE face of the mountain. Ran into some fun obstacles, and we were able to find a non-technical way up to the summit, where there were several 'tinajas' or tanks of water! Very cool!" — Kevin • Mar 28, 2015
