"9 am departed the Foley Ridge TH and headed for The Husband that had turned my party around on June 6th due to unexpected difficulty. After 1 hour I reached the stopping point that had taken us 3 hours to get to two weeks earlier and decided that solo is by far the fastest way to go. I reached the intersection with Substitute Point 4.25 miles in and already 1300 feet above the TH. At 11AM I left Foley Ridge Trail and began cross country towards the saddle in the southeastern flank, the only weakness in the ridgeline from this beast. By 12PM I had scrambled and clawed my way up the scree and hardened dike as described by Brian Jenkins on summitpost and the summit was mine to enjoy. I spied an unnamed lake tucked into the western flank that I decided needed closer inspection. So I made my way down and off the western flank cross country yet again another 2 miles until upon the shores of a beautiful oasis. After replenishing my water and talking to a couple of black bears that were shocked to see a human walking through their territory, up over 2 more ridges to reach Foley Ridge trail again. Probably not the best way out. Ending mileage was 17.25 miles after a run up Substitute Point ..." — oregon-mt-goat • Jun 22, 2015
