Man, this one did not come easily for me. A group of friends and I were camped at Loon Lake for the weekend, and we hiked Tells Peak on Saturday. The first few miles are pretty flat, but the climb from the wilderness boundary to Forni Lake hit me with the combination of heat and smoke in the air. I was sweating a ton. After taking a quick break at Forni and seriously questioning if I wanted to continue, we continued up the peak on the use trail/cairn route. I started feeling even worse, still sweating profusely and feeling a little nauseous at times. I took a break with one of my trip companions and continued, but the nausea came back. We took a longer break and my friend encouraged me to continue since we were so close. After this longer break I did feel close to my normal self and met the rest of our group at the summit for lunch. We got a little off route on the way down and I ended up with some scrapes on my butt (nothing serious). After getting back to our camp at Loon Lake, I took a much needed dip in the lake and washed off some sweat and grime. I definitely feel I was suffering from heat exhaustion with the profuse sweating, nausea, and fatigue. The second longer break really helped as I was able to cool down enough to feel mostly back to normal.
