"With a few hours to kill before the Zilpo campground opened, I decided to hike up Tater Knob for a second time and spend a little more time up there. Although the fire tower has been disassembled, partial views can still be had in multiple directions. It was a very pleasant day weather-wise, a lot better than back home where it was snowing!
My final evening at the Zilpo campground was very enjoyable and relaxing. I hiked up to an impressive overlook spot above Cave Run Lake, went down to the beach for the sunset, and then had a massive campfire fueled by dry leaves that were abundant in the nearby woods. " — theascent • Apr 28, 2022

"A quick hike up and down Tater Knob, a county highpoint with an old lookout tower. Unfortunately, the tower was partially disassembled and is no longer climbable. You can still hike up the mountain and get some partial views from the summit area's clearings and rocky ledges, though. It's a nice stop for anyone camping in the Zilpo Recreation Area, but isn't worth driving out of your way to visit. It's a long drive from the main highway and there are better sights to be seen in Kentucky's Red River Gorge. " — theascent • Apr 24, 2022
