"Started by the eastern hohonu River and grunted up the castle hill route in some brutal summer heat. Made it to taff tor after about 8 hours which included some hiding in the shade and some water detours. Water is available only low on the terraces, which requires some spaniard dodging. I camped up just west off taff tor, had some fun chamois encounters and some surprising kaka song which was a hohonu first for me. I bashed out the spur that exits at carew falls. Not the best spur to choose but could be worse. " — samspeight • Jan 1, 2022
"On the afternoon of the first day I walked up the Eastern Hohonu River and set up camp about 30 minutes beyond the end of the track. Next day I climbed Taff Tor by heading up a creek and then a ridge to access the Hohonu Peaks main ridge and then traversed south to Taff Tor. Descending I dropped off Taff Tor to a tributary of the Eastern Hohonu River and followed it back to my campsite. (a few bluffs had to be bypassed by sidling to the TR above the drop offs before returning to the water course) There are no tracks except for those made by chamois and parts of the forest and scrub are slow going. It took 9 hours excluding a lunch break on the summit to do the round trip from my campsite to Taff Tor and return. On the morning of day three I packed up camp and walked out." — glennj • Feb 3, 2019
