"Wanting to look at more photogenic scenery than Frost Hill provided, I approached Tabor Benchmark from Harriet Hollister Spencer State Recreation Area. There's a fantastic view of Honeoye Lake just a half-mile from the entrance. From there, I walked down to the C4 snowmobile trail which goes fairly close to the benchmark site. It has a few blood-pumping ups and downs before entering an open space near the Ontario-Livingston county line. After entering the woods again, it's only another half-mile to Tabor. The final off-trail stretch felt longer because of the poor snow quality that I mentioned in my Frost Hill trip report. Nearby Canadice Hill was heavily posted with visible residential properties, so I passed up on that. I doubt I missed much there! Towards the end of my outing, I encountered a steady stream of people that reminded me of the Eastern Adirondacks during the busiest times of year. The parking lot was also busy. I always have to remind myself that workday crowds in the Rochester / Finger Lakes area often surpass weekend crowds south of Buffalo where I normally hike. It's unsurprising that REI opened up a location in Rochester while completely passing over Buffalo...." — theascent • Mar 20, 2023
