"Started from the Adirondack LOJ parking lot. Followed the Van Hoevenberg trail to Marcy summit. Went back down and followed the herd path to Tabletop summit. Total mileage was 15.9 miles with 4,300 feet of elevation gain." — Zardoz • Sep 23, 2024

"Man, what an incredible day yesterday in the Adirondacks! I climbed Tabletop and Phelps for #37 and 38, with 8 peaks left! I made the quick stop at Indian Falls, which has absolutely beautiful views of the MacIntyre Range and Colden. Tabletop had nice views of the Upper Great Range, Colden, and the MacIntyre Range. Phelps however, was the best view of the day. From the summit, you're graced with an awesome view of so many high peaks, including the entire Great Range!

"This was an absolute grinder of a day.
Busted out of the lean-to around 9:30am and didn't get back until twilight around 8pm. Ran/fast-packed and filtered water the whole way.
I made a loop out east of Colden Lake area and was able to pick off 6 of the Adirondack 46'ers (46 peaks over 4,000') on this route - Colden, Tabletop, Marcy (the NY state HP), Gray, Skylight and Cliff. Running through deep mud, rocks, climbing some class 3 rock faces (Cliff was a bitch!) and hiking/running up and down tree line. Long ass day, but wouldn't have it any other way.

"Classic route on the Van Hoovenburg on the way towards Marcy to get to the trail head just before Indian Falls, then a very primitive trail up the mountain. First section of trail has you weaving through trees before reaching steeper trail. Entire trail is narrow. Very limited views at the summit which you will find at the end of the trail marked with a sign. " — ThermarestCompressiblePillow • May 20, 2024

"Tom and I left the ADK LOJ parking lot at 7:08am with temps around 20. Trail to summit was well packed. Wore micro spikes to the Table Top trail junction then switched to snowshoes to the summit. Views were good with Marcy in and out of clouds. Summited at 9:50. Returned on snowshoes to the bridge crossing then switched back to micros. Ran into the snowshoes police at Marcy Dam so back to shoes the rest of the trip. Returned to car at 12:15pm. 20/46W." — garyogden • Mar 10, 2023

"Phelps seemed long and steep but it was mostly clear at the top with spectacular views. Rained on the hike down
Tabletop is swampy and boggy at the top. The trail turns to a mud pit and your feet will get wet. It was raining so no views for me at the peak
Tough day, wet but not cold with a lot of ascent " — johnpursell • Sep 4, 2022

"Two more 46ers for Jen on a beautiful Fall day bringing her to 8/46. One doesn’t always need Fall foliage to have stunning views and they delivered today. The original plan was just to do Phelps, but she decided to want to go for Tabletop as well once we hit the junction on Van Hoevenberg trail, so off we went. This was not easy for her as she doesn’t hike longer distances but she plugged on through some fatigue and tears over the last haul and made it the 13 miles. A great day, her goal exceeded and more. Proud of her. " — scottturner • Oct 12, 2021
"Joined friends Peter and Miyon for a nice hike of TT and Phelps for Miyon’s 46R challenge. These two peaks brought her even with Peter putting both at #40, leaving only HaBaSA and the Santa’s with the dreaded Couchie. TT was the usual mucky mess of a herd path leading us to a limited view do to the low cloud cover. Fortunately as we climbed the much drier side trail to Phelps the clouds were parting allowing us the usual great views once on top. From the open ledge everyone was elated by the view and spent the lunch break identifying all the peaks and engaging in various photo ops." — Nimblefoot • Oct 10, 2021

"Another busy day at the Loj - parking still available at 6AM, though. Misty morning with wet (but not muddy) trails. Lots of thick fog/cloud cover on the summit of Phelps. Cleared up by summit of Table Top, but wooded summit obscured views." — hunterjfrost • Sep 4, 2021

"Cloudy and rain all day. Tabletop was the worst herd path of all. You are walking in a stream the whole way up. At the top, it was so cloudy there were no views. Phelps was a nicer hike. " — hanawalton • Jul 21, 2021
