"Hiked Sunset Ridge from Cow Canyon Saddle. Summited Sunset Peak, Colver Peak, and Sunset Point. Not a lot of shade after the first few miles, so lower temps helped out quite a bit." — MikeTeeples • May 22, 2022

"We started out at 7 Am on the Sunset peak trail. We passed through some nice pine forest and some nice mossy rocks and viewpoints. Then we entered the San Antonio Fire burn scar. That area smelt like my dad's AMS pills. Then we asended Sunset Peak using a steep dozed firebreak. Then we ate out stuff and took pictures with the sunset peak sign. Then we decided to continue to Culver Peak. The road was downhill from here on out until the clear area. The road was boring except for the clear area, the view of the mountains, and the old water tank. Then we asended the steep firebreak to Culver Peak. Culver Peak just had a sign, no register. Then we descended the steep firebreak to Sunset Point. The trail up to Sunset Point was steep, but not as steep as the firebreak. Then we went behind an antenna building ti eat. Then we took pics of the views. Then we descended to our car at the trailhead." — lc4441 • Apr 24, 2022

"Climbed with my Kids, Daughters Boyfriend and his son as well as Kai the Dog! Snow patches along the trail-would suggest Cat Tracks (we didnt bring them and were fine though) Fun Hike-GMR road is closed so that will add about 1.6 miles roundtrip. Need to park in the village." — Curt • Jan 10, 2021

"Great time with my wife Brenda, my daughter Stephanie & her friend Josh-Oh, lets not forget Freya the super Dog! parked at the turnout at Cow Canyon-there is a new sign saying "no trespassing" with a locked gate going into the canyon-we parked crossed the street and on our way-did the "scrambles" shortcut for fun on the way up and took the trail down to break it up a little-fun day and great views-could not find the sign box though-if anyone can give a clue? Or I can bring a new one up if there isn't one any more!" — Curt • Dec 12, 2015

"A two-peak day; I followed Sunset with South Hawkins. The parking lot at the trailhead had plenty of "no parking; you will be ticketed and towed" signs, which I took at face value (although plenty of cars were parked there and seemed unaffected). So I parked in a pull-out a little further down the hill toward Baldy Village. I though that this hike would be super easy, but it's actually quite steep. No worries, though. It was a gorgeous day to be hiking above the clouded in basin!" — HikerMark • Mar 22, 2015

"Sunset was the second peak we bagged that day. [First tagged Lookout Mountain 6,812', 4.54 mi., 2,900' g.] With a 5:30 pm start we hiked briskly up the fire road until we hit the use-trail up the ridge and to the summit. (Summited at 8:15) About 15-20 minutes later we were treated with an amazing sunset atop Sunset Peak. A mere minute or so after sun down, we watched the full moon rise over Ontario Peak. Amazing! Beautiful! Damn, we were spoiled!" — Mountain-Rain • Sep 18, 2013

"Too much snow at the high elevations so I went up to Sunset instead. Took the ridge route from Cow Canyon Saddle up, then the trail/fire road down. Temperature was about 32 on the summit." — jeffhubatka • Nov 5, 2011
"A simple fire road, to an amazing view of the Higher San Gabriel Mountains, where you can view Mount Baldy, Ontario Peak and Timber Mountain. and the city of Rancho Cucamonga. On a clear day, you can see as far as Mount Wilson. " — JuanAlvarenga • Mar 13, 2011
