With 1-2' of fresh snow in Tahoe, I went instead to the Southern Sierra to hike some HPS peaks. The objectives for the day were Bohna and Sunday, two peaks near Lake Isabella. I started from Cedar Creek CG and fought through some brush before things opened up. The area was very badly burned by the 2016 Cedar Fire and has not shown much sign of recovery; almost every tree was dead and there were downed trees and debris littering the forest floor. There was snow cover almost from the start, but I only needed the snowshoes above 7000ft where the snow was still very powdery. I found the Bohna register on the rocky south summit - a class 3 scramble. The weather was pretty nasty at the summit of Sunday Peak - freezing cold, windy, no visibility, so I didn't stay long and made my way back to the highway along muddy fire roads and OHV trails.
