"Parked at Lopez Canyon and crossed the road to start the hike.
I heard some noise which I thought was construction on first impression, but quickly realized were gunshots from a nearby shooting range. That, combined with the lack of shade and overgrown final stretch of the trail, made this a hike I probably won't return to for a while.
I did like how easy the trail was, and the views were very nice." — oskar156 • May 10, 2026
"The first hike in the San Gabriel's. These peaks were a great introduction to the range, seeing vast higher peaks like Strawberry and Lukens, as well looking down into the San Fernando Valley. I will never forget that day I first stepped foot" — ChristianFlowerstheczywildhikr • Feb 22, 2025
"Parked at Lopez Canyon Park, where I crossed the road and picked up Indian Canyon Road (an unsigned dirt road). The road directly leads to the lower slopes of Sugarloaf. I left the road on the western slope of Sugarloaf and took a steeply overgrown use trail to the summit. On top I found no summit marker or register. Views of the San Gabriel's to the north were appealing, but city views to the south were limited. On the way back, I took the east slope, which turned out to have a much better use trail on it (which tells me that I probably came up the wrong way). This was otherwise a rather easy summit. 1.5 miles with a 195 foot gain." — MikeTeeples • Feb 14, 2021
