"My third summit of Sugar Hill was more about the journey than the destination. It was a nine-mile hike on the Finger Lakes Trail with stops at Templar Falls, a lean-to shelter, an old cemetery (perfect for Halloween), the rugged Van Zandt Cliffs, and finally the summit tower. The foliage was spotty with many of the leaves having fallen. " — theascent • Oct 31, 2020

"This was my second summit of Sugar Hill. My initial summit 1.5 years ago consisted of me walking a short distance on a flat gravel road. Yawn! This time around, I added three additional miles to my journey by hiking eastward on the Finger Lakes Trail through both public land and private easement sections. Although the terrain wasn't very challenging, I felt less guilty about counting Sugar Hill today as I did last spring.
It was snowing pretty hard in the open summit area, but none of it was sticking. Only the firetower steps were covered with a light dusting of snow. It was a bit chilly in the woods, but not quite as unpleasant as it was on top of the hill.
And no, that Miller Lite can in the lean-to campfire pit wasn't mine! " — theascent • Nov 3, 2019
