Started from the car park at Whicham church and walked up the summit of Black Combe. The weather was pleasant in the valley, but a strong cold gale force wind, straight off the sea was blowing at over 400m, which meant extra layers. Good views on the ascent and on the summit of the coastal plain, seascape and the Lake District peaks. It was clear enough to see the Isle of Man out to sea. After lunch at Black Combe summit cairn shelter, we walked NE, to view the screes and then descended the grassy slopes to White Combe and a marshy col, then up to the minor peak of Stoupdale Head. Here we enjoyed views of the Duddon Valley and Furness peninsula to the S and views of the Coniston hills, Crinkle Crags, Bowfell & Esk PIke to the E. We returned back up to the summit of Black Coombe, visiting its south summit prior to the descent to our starting point.
