"On a mild, sunny but hazy morning I parked with Petey at the end of Afterglow Terrace in West Orange which is on the park’s northern border and where access to the red trailhead can be found. We found the red blazed trail immediately and began hiking in the counter-clockwise direction. The red trail runs along and slightly above a very busy and noisy Prospect Avenue. I noticed a rather wide unmarked trail to our left that would lead up to higher ground, but it was well before the old Orange Manor that Stony Hill is directly across from. So onward on the red trail we went. Well, when we were directly across the street from the Manor, there weren’t any ascending trails nearby, so I had to backtrack a few hundred feet to where I saw that unmarked trail. We made a right up that trail, and after 300 feet or so, I saw a white blazed trail on our right which led us up to the summit of Stony Hill. The summit was full of trees and brush, and it offered no views of the surrounding areas. We continued on the white trail which ends on blue where we made a right.
