"Training run to scout the Frozen Toe 10K course. However, the "snow" storm created a cancellation of the race's permit by the National Park Service. At any rate, I ran the loop, bagged Chestnut Ridge and Stone Mountain. A nice, forested loop, but I never run well on this course for some reason." — runshigleyrun • Dec 30, 2023
"An easy peak to grab when doing the Chestnut Ridge Loop. I always envy the houses at the cul-de-sac peak as they have stellar views of either the city and valley or Roanoke Mountain and beyond. Unfortunately, there is no public view for those who make the trek up." — runshigleyrun • Aug 13, 2023
"Did a night hike/walk with Todd, which turned into a Christmas lights tour of Peakwood (Stone Mountain). No photos taken. Always surprised by how steep this hike/run is. Views from the top are spectacular, though one must peak through the yards of homeowners on the cul-de-sac directly on the summit. Maybe this how Peakwood came to be?" — runshigleyrun • Nov 30, 2022
"An uneventful sludge up my least favorite mountain in the area. A warm, humid day before the cold spell arrived. Listened to the Nebraska football game along the way. Stellar views if you are one of the wealthy homeowners on the top of the mountain. " — runshigleyrun • Nov 12, 2022
"Mountain #99 on my quest for 100 in my first year of living in Roanoke. This urban mountain sits only a couple of mountains from my place. Ran on a day in which the heat index topped 100. It's almost all road with a small section of trail and forest. The views are reserved for those that own houses on the peak. Nonetheless, this climb is steep and challenging. There are a few Pin Oaks and a basketball hoop awaiting at the top. " — runshigleyrun • Jun 14, 2022
"Walked up the steepest residential road to reach the top of this difficult climb. Toward the top, a trail emerges in the neighborhood and takes you into the wilderness and connects to the Chestnut Ridge Loop. I reconnected to the neighborhood to bag the peak, which consisted of an oak tree and basketball hoop in the middle of a cul-de-sac. Thankful for the dense fog to hide some of those houses.
