"Started clouding up and raining a bit. We met a couple of volunteers on their way down and gained some knowledge. Nice short hike. Thunder and harder showers the last 2/10 of a mile. Lovely hike though. Very pretty woodsy trail. No view unless you climb the tower, which was in good shape. Always a treat." — melaniehaskell • Aug 21, 2022
"Made last minute motel reservations so couldn’t get into my usual choice, Shaheen’s, so had to settle for the Tupper Lake motel. It was ok, right acrossed the street from the IGA, but I wouldn’t highly recommend it. After a leisurely start in the AM climbed Stillwater to finally hit all 25 of the fire towers in the ADKs at least once. Short easy hike so it was more drive then hike. Then moved onto Black Bear, Rocky and Bald to complete the FC trifecta. Fortunately I had nice sunny warm weather and managed to find parking as the Columbus Day weekend crowds haven’t arrived yet. Great views from all peaks once you climb the tower on Stillwater.

"Hiked this with my wife, 3 year old and 5 year old. Not too crowded today. Very easy hike with great views from the fire tower. No views from summit without climbing fire tower. Outhouse at start of trail. - nowhere to stop within about 45 minutes from trailhead. " — jan2ny • Sep 8, 2020

"Day trip to Old Forge, NY to Stillwater Fire Tower. I think we spent longer in the car than we did on the trail. Awesome views from the tower. Perfect fall day in peak season! Colors were stunning. " — jasaru • Oct 12, 2019

"First mountain I have ever hiked and reached the Summit, in addition to climbing the Fire Tower. Fantastic hike, was well worth it for the views from the tower. I got hooked into hiking mountains. I found the Fulton Chain Trifecta to do next. More challenges to come after that." — deborahraleigh • Aug 25, 2019

"Congratulations to peakery.com user weeeee on his first official mountain summit!
Our group had the entire mountain to ourselves, as we arrived in the parking area right as the other groups were finishing their hikes. The one-mile hike was more challenging for the others than it was for me, but we all eventually reached the firetower on this hot and sticky afternoon.
And what better way to celebrate the 4th of July than by going up a mountain that has the "stars and stripes" flying proudly at its summit! " — theascent • Jul 4, 2019

"Amazingly well maintained trail and tower. I have never seen a tower better refurbished and maintained than this one and I doubt I ever will. Great experience all around. 10/10, would recommend." — Right-On • Sep 7, 2018

"Great day with a few slight showers as we got to the summit, well kept marked trail ,Met some other hikers along the way and shared a few stories,, great day and a fire tower bonus!" — ramjet1963 • Aug 4, 2018

"I finished the Catskill/Adirondack Firetower Challenge in March of 2016, but the summer following that, they added this one to the official list. Today it was a five hour round trip drive for a short & muddy little hike on a grey sky day just for the purpose of having Peakery show that the list is 100% complete again. I'm not proud. "Gorgeous day and very nice easy trail. Beautifully restored fire tower. Snowshoes required (or you will be making postholes). The road in is long, and I wouldn't want to drive it during mud season!" — PJSelmer • Feb 19, 2017
