"Ignore the crazy route. My gps combined two different hikes into one file. Beautiful day out on Spruce Mt. There was some snow, but the day was brilliantly clear and warm. This is a great place for kids to hike." — danielmartin • Jan 4, 2022

"It was supposed to snow around 8pm....which in Colorado meant 10am? Love the unpredictability of weather. Drive was easy, which says a lot when you have a low clearance Celica. Drive up to the trailhead was easy and the lot was a decent size. We - and the one worker who we think is putting in vault toilets? - were the only ones up there. Decent amount of snow but no ice and still an easy enjoyable climb. The only wildlife seen was a group of deer and the tracks of something small and still undecided. Beautiful views and a lot of rock formations you can climb around on...also a nifty cave discovered. Definitely somewhere I will revisit in Spring/Summer for easy trail running. "Hiked it with daughter Niki. Nice trail, not too challenging for a 47 yo Type 2 diabetic who has added "small mountain climbing" to the fight against the disease. Chose this mountain to break in easy to the sport. About 500 ft of altitude gain, most of which occurred over one mile of not-too-tough switchbacks. Nice views of the open space below and the front range area. Saw a black Abert's squirrel on the loop around the top of the mountain...don't see those very often down Colorado Springs. Round trip took 2 1/2 hours with frequent stops for breaks and pictures by Niki. All-in-all a very worthwhile hike that was very scenic and not too taxing on the body." — TakinIt2Type2 • Sep 3, 2012
