"We spent the night in the village of Gavarnier, which was packed with people for the Pentecost holiday.
We left the village along the GR10 trail, following the Ossou Valley. We climbed higher and flattened through vast alpine meadows until we reached the Lourdes refuge cabin. We headed towards the Bernatuara Alpine Lake, where the peak is located and from where we returned to Spain. At this beautiful alpine lake, the slopes are steep and rocky, and the snowfields make progress somewhat difficult. After reaching the summit, the descent of almost 3,000 feet is along a very rough and stony path that will grind your knees.
These landscapes are truly beautiful and wild, where marmots make their presence felt." — franciscobirruezo • Jun 9, 2025
"Today I'm hiking with my son through the Pyrenees National Park. Today, we're hiking the first 13-mile stretch that will take us to the village of Gavarnier on the French side of the Pyrenees Mountains. The first stretch will take us through beech and fir forests, then we'll ascend to alpine meadows and snowfields. We reach the peak near the Bujaruelo mountain pass, and after a steep descent, we'll reach the Gavarnier glacial cirque and its 1,200-foot waterfall." — franciscobirruezo • Jun 8, 2025
"We parked in Los Molinos and took the PR HU-43 trail west between fields down to the river. From there the trail wound up through pine wood to the Cuello de San Berturián at 883m. We turned south to follow a stony, later grassy, track south up to a weather station. From there a steeper path led up through the trees to the hermitage and trig point on the summit. We returned by our outward route in increasing heat. With ALT." — marktrengove • Jul 31, 2022
"We parked below the village and took the lane through it, and up through olive groves to the church (closed). The summit was behind - a good viewpoint with a small cairn and information board on the local geology in Spanish and English. Return by outward route. Hot and sunny, some cloud. Negligible wind.
With ALT." — marktrengove • Jul 30, 2022
"This is the shortest route to access this peak of more than three thousand meters. Access to this place of Petramula is suitable for any vehicle that is not too low chassis.
To be able to circulate with our vehicle on this track, it is necessary to obtain a ticket in a machine next to the pools of Bielsa and choose the option "PISTA RUEGO". The price is 3 euros." — drgrijando • Aug 1, 2020
