"Cool hike. Starts off super easy from the trailhead, past Sandy Stream Pond, for about the first mile-ish. From there, it's one mile that climbs about 1500' in elevation. It was a grind! On this particular day, it was miserable up top. Completely socked in and wind gusts that had to have been hitting 30mph. Visibility was maybe 15 yards. It was spooky and cool, but once I hit the summit, the wind was so crazy that I had to get the hell out of there. I was happy to get back below treeline. I will definitely have to hike this again because I've heard the view is great. " — mikewilliamsjr • Oct 30, 2024
"Beautiful day with great summit views towards Katahdin. Direct view into Knife Edge, Baxter and Hamlin Peaks. Pretty windy and no moose at Sandy Stream Pond. Bird of the day: Boreal Chickadee." — Alohabuffy • Sep 9, 2024
"All trails to Katahdin were still closed due to Ice and possible rock slides?!? So I hiked South Turner. 3 hr hike. Pretty impressive for a 3,000' peak. Nice little climb above treeline. Saw 4 other hikers. " — hollis83 • May 28, 2014
"Great day to summit S. Turner. Blue skies and warm. First time since the 1980's that I returned to Baxter. Have gone every year since then. Possibly my favorite place on Earth." — JMindlin12463 • Jul 25, 2004
