"Up Doublehead Ski Trail to North Doublehead (view down past the cabin), then Old Path and down New Path to South Doublehead (two views). Back on New Path which we accidentally took all the way down instead of connecting back to Old Path. Since we took New Path down it was very steep with loose rock and ended down the road from the trailhead. It was a short (maybe 1/4 mile) to the car. " — AmyScrambles • Jul 30, 2023
"Went up the New Path to the spur lookout points, then to the awesome summit lookout, and down the Old Path on this redline trip to complete the trails for this pair. Excellent weather and the foliage was still outstanding." — SteveM_StickMan • Oct 12, 2020
"52 WAV trip. We lucked out and were able to book the cabin on North Doublehead which made us able to bring two puppies on shorter hikes 1.8 miles up, overnight, 1.9 down. Nice views from South Doublehead. " — hiking4000 • Jul 31, 2020
"We hiked over to the South Doublehead summit and lookout for the views and returned to the Doublehead Cabin before heading back down the Ski Trail. A nice hike for John's birthday weekend!" — SteveM_StickMan • Nov 3, 2019
"We started out around 12:30, took us a bit to find the trail head, as we took a wrong road.
Once we'd parked, we took the Doublehead ski trail to the summit of North Doublehead.
The trail felt longer than it was, but that may have been due to the sun and heat. It was moderately steep, I would say, which also makes for slow going for me on the uphill.
The cabin was unoccupied and locked, so we peeked in the windows. Looks like a nice place to spend a night.
There was a group of people sitting at the overlook area having lunch, so we just snapped a picture and headed to the col and over up to South Doublehead.
The trail down to the col was steep and fun, but I wouldn't want to climb up it.
Met a couple of people in the col and talked for a bit, then took the much easier .3 mile trail through pretty woods to the summit of South Doublehead, which had gorgeous views.
Well worth the hike just for South Doublehead. North had some views, but South was awesome.
We took the Old Path down. Fun trail, though, again, as steep as it was, I was happy to be going down it rather than up. I'm backward that way.
Tiring, but worth every step!

"Day started out overcast, misty and humid. No views at all from the summit. Of course after summiting South and then North the sun was out and the skies clear back at the jeep!!" — goshen-bagger • Jun 18, 2017
"Solo hiked the loop to hit North & South Doublehead....a beautiful (yet cold) morning with NO WIND....How lucky!! Little sprinkles of snow were on the mountain....and the view of the WHITE whites was awesome! Met the caretaker for the cabin on my way down. " — shay-shay • Oct 26, 2016
"Hiked up with Doug, Brian, and Kirby. We went up the Old Path for my red-lining. Got stung by a digger wasp for my efforts. Steep trail up and Kirby was struggling. But we eventually reached the summit with its incredible views. South has better views than North. We headed over to North next." — newenglandwarrior • Sep 4, 2016
"This is a short but very steep hike up the New Path. It was a muggy morning too. The New Path was full of toads. The outlook views of Jackson really made the hike. Bagged N. Doublehead too." — Alohabuffy • Jul 28, 2016
"I'm pretty sure my White Mountain guide map deceived me, because this hike was much steeper than it looked based on the topography. However, the views at the top were fantastic." — HikeLikeMike • May 25, 2014
