"An intended 3 day circular route up Rockeries Pass and down Mweni Pass, overnighting in Sunshine Cave and Mponjwana Cave.
A massive rain storm hit us during the evening while at the Mponjwana Cave, as a result the rivers swelled and were impassable. We decided to descend Rockeries Pass again as it's a smaller catchment, however multiple attempts to cross the river proved futile. Jess was sick so we set up the tent so she could dry off and rest. Finally before evening we were able to find a way to cross the river at the point where a tributary fans out to meet the main raging river.
A magical place to hike in general. Just be aware of this risk in the summer rainy season. " — CraigBurnsStellenbosch • Jan 4, 2023
"Attempt #2 up the Amphlette successful! This time the weather played ball.
We took the grass ridge up until the very steep grass section (near vertical for about 80m). We traversed on the steep slopes into the ravine and made our way up some prickly bundu bashing to the saddle between the two peaks. Took the wrong approach initially and climbed over a gap to the other side of the peak. After some scouting I realised we were wrong so we retraced out steps and then found the correct grass ledge up to the summit ridgeline. Was a great route with spectacular views.
I recommend bringing tat and abseiling off the summit, would save time rather than retracing your steps.
We took the grass ridgeline the whole way down as it was quickest and the clouds began to rumble. We roped up as a tumble would be unstoppable for quite a way down.
Next time I want to explore approaching from Sterkhorn rather, there seems to be a broad ledge traverse all the way to the Turret. " — CraigBurnsStellenbosch • Dec 23, 2022
"A fun day out on Cathedral Peak!
Very glad to have brought a rope and some trad gear as the mountain was saturated from heavy recent rains and the dark wet patched on the basalt rock become dangerously slippery when wet. " — CraigBurnsStellenbosch • Jan 5, 2022
"Went up to Poppies peak before going down to Judges pass. On my way down the pass a rock slipped oit under my feet and I fell about 20m down. Had a hard knock above my eye and some scratches on my legs. Luckily I managed to get hold of a piece of grass and hold on to it.A very steep pass to go down.Sorry no picture of the peak. Only a video of witch I can't seem to upload here." — williamhugo • Apr 28, 2021
"Irfaan and I came up with this idea after a couple beers at a wedding. Very happy that we managed to get out there. Slept in the building at Sentinel Car Park.
Warning: The road to the car park is terrible at the moment. We went in a Freelander, and it was touch and go.
We summited Namahadi, and came back over Mont-Aux-Sources. Lovely day out in the mountains." — harrymaarsingh • Apr 26, 2021
