"Parked at Meldon Dam car park and headed west out over South Down picking up the West Devon Way until East Tor. Quick ascent up Sourton Tor before heading straight up Branscombe’s Loaf with paragliders circling above. All down hill to Shelstone Tor for lunch before crossing the West Okement River and the steep climb to Black Tor. Then a gentle amble back to Meldon Dam on the old quarry tracks. 11.1km. Sunny/windy. Solo. " — MuchMoorWalking • Sep 24, 2022
"Parked at the end of the track (N 50°41.117' W 004°04.893') on the A386. Headed up the track taking non direct route to the summit of Branscombe's Loaf due to following geocache trail (Letterboxing around Sourton GC81MZX no 3 in series). Finally made it to the summit where I enjoyed looking at the views. Weather was breezy but stayed dry with broken sunshine. After mooching and, we headed down the ridge towards Sourton Tors. After brief stop for lunch on the summit (ish) and obligatory dog on a trig photo, we headed down the Flank heading towards Sourton to pick up number 1 and 2 of the series and back to the car. I can't post time taken, because it was embarrassingly slow but it was my first ever visit to Dartmoor I kept stopping to check out the views and marvel at them....." — staggeronward • Jun 26, 2021
"My Bombardier Leadership course was carried out in Plymouth and around Dartmoor. I also spent many a day on Military exercise in and around the Moors. Okehampton was our basecamp, along with many other bivy areas around DTA (Dartmoor Training Area) spent many hours, both day and night, tabbing around Dartmoor in the cold and wet......it was ALWAYS cold and wet !!.
A beautiful area, and spent time there both with the Army on training exercises and courses, and there just to visit other areas. " — HikingViking • May 24, 1996
