"Took advantage of cool weather to do a marathon length hike up to summit Somerset-Sneeukop from the Elgin Grabouw Country Club. Used the Sphinx route to make our way the length of the Hottentots Holland mountain range. Whole route out was in the midst of thick cloud which cleared as we reached the summit and popped out above the cloud level. Path was overgrown in bits but besides some scrambling up to the summit nothing too challenging." — davidcase • Oct 23, 2022
"Started our hike from Nuweberg up towards Landroskop via the Sphinx route. Once at the huts, we had a quick lunch and swapped our huge backpacks for day packs before taking on the trail towards Somerset-Sneeukop. Once through some extremely overgrown protea fields, we heading up a boulder field to the summit. Once at the top, it opened up for a small window to see the views. So glad we finally summited this peak. Headed back to the huts for a great evening with friends before heading back to Nuweberg the next morning." — Kortstok • Nov 13, 2021
"Whe climbed from jonkershoek side with the waterfalla route. It was a 19km hike to tehe top and back, with 1200m elevation gain and some serious bundu bashing through proteas. " — mcthinusbrink • Oct 19, 2019
"We started our hike in Jonkershoek , making use of the Kurktrekker path up to the Panorama trail. We followed this till we reached a fork and took a left towards Landroskop. From there its a matter of fighting your way through some extremely tall protias and choosing your own way up Sneeukop." — MikeyG • Oct 19, 2019
"A fellow mountain runner and I decided to have an adventure and bag some of the peaks on my list. Its been a while and the wind was bringing in a lot of cloud so unfortunately i was not able to get an image of any of the summits on the way in.
We started our journey from the MTO Forestry gate in Jonkershoek and ran the along the circular road (gravel road) until we reached Swartbos Kloof where we began our ascent. Swartboskloof is a relatively long climb by local standards and covers over 900m of elevation over about 3km. From the top of Swartboskloof there are spectacular views over Jonkershoek down into the Stellenbosch valley. If you cross over the ridge to Pic-sans-Nom you will find yourself on a ledge some 1184m up looking over Somerset West and Strand.
From The top of Swartbos Kloof we followed what is the Boland Hiking trail until the split. Where the path splits we headed east along the path that soon goes south up and around the Tripplets (three peaks in close proximity overlooking a deep gorge aptly named Diepgat). We summited the highest of these three buy leaving the path and climbing a ridge line. This peak has got to be one of the most spectacular summits i have..." — desdeary • Nov 12, 2016
