"This is my third summit. In looking at my history, I climb this mountain every 11 years. Since it is now 11 years, I was due. Several types of spring flowers lined the trail. Meanwhile, I had the mountain to myself." — MikeTeeples • May 15, 2022
"I finally climbed Smith Mountain after eyeing it for several years. It's a bit short for a day-long outing, so I combined it with Rattlesnake Peak to make a full day in the San Gabriel River Valley. The Bear Creek trail is pleasant enough, but only gains 1000 ft over 3 miles. At the saddle things get interesting, climbing and scrambling up a steep use trail for ~850 ft over 0.4 mi. Really close views of the infamous Triplet Rocks from the summit. Perhaps one day..." — klotito • Feb 12, 2018
"Quick trip up Smith Mountain. The grade on the trail is very steady up to the wilderness boundary, so I ran part of the way. Overcast, but I did manage some great views of Twin Peaks & Mt. Waterman. Only took 2.5 hours RT." — edg • May 8, 2016
"I loved this peak and I think I picked the perfect time of year to do it! There was plenty of green, lots of wildflowers and great views all around. After three miles of nice trail, I really enjoyed the fun Class 2 scramble to the top. Coming down, mixed in with the Class 2 section, were some slippy parts, but I managed not to skid down on my butt. Three hours from car to car. " — HikerMark • Mar 15, 2015
"Wanted to get a peak in before the storm hits this weekend. Great view at the saddle before the firebreak up of Twin Peaks, Triplet Rocks and Devil's Canyon. The firebreak is steeper than words or pictures can show." — Christopher • Nov 11, 2011
