"Went up Erebus and Sleeping Beauty today from Dacy Clearing. Trail is quite rocky and there is definitely some mud on the way up to Bumps Pond and on to Fishbrook. Pretty easy though, and I made quick work reaching Fishbrook. Bumps is quite small, but Fishbrook is expansive with a nice lean-to at the south shore. I took the serene path along the west shoreline passing through tall hemlocks and meandering around peaceful bays. There is a beautiful grassy point on the north shore where a lean-to was formerly located; such a shame it burnt down last year. Next, I began following the trail to Erebus Mt., which seemed to be going away from the peak at first, but then began a steady ascent up the north flank. Upon reaching the "official" summit (where I stopped last time), I wanted to see if I could locate the quarter mile herd path to the true summit. Luckily, someone had marked this path with yellow and pink flagging. There were a few different routes with different ribbon colours, but I was grateful that someone had been considerate enough to blaze the trail. Down in the southern part of Lake George hiking with fellow hikers Shane Larose, Samantha Maclean, Craig Boer, Eve Lyn and one other, hiking/climbing Erebus and Sleeping Beauty for Shane's finish of the Lake George 12ster, Congrats! "Kelly and I left the trailhead at 9:45 am under cloudy skies @58 degrees with a likely threat of showers. Summited the lookout at 10:39. "Did the loop by Bumps Pond Trail to Sleeping Beauty . Beautiful trail lots of water in the trail next to Bumps Pond . From Dacy Clearing parking lot we did the loop clockwise by Bumps Pond. We had some beautiful views. But it was a wet summer and fall so there was a great deal of water in the trail at the pond. "Did the loop. Beautifuly strange day. Bumps pond was lovely. Clouds were rolling in and out at the lookout. Sun was shining. At the bottom the first snowflakes of the season were falling. "Intended Phelps Mountain today for a Winter 46er, but water leaking through a ceiling exhaust fan overnight and waking you up is not supposed to happen and derailed that plan. Plan B was just as nice and got an opportunity to break in my new snow shoes. We didn’t stick around long at the summit as the wind was brutal today and needed to dig in to keep balance.
