"An overnighter organised by Wade from the MCSA. Had a great lunch by the pools. Unfortunately the peak was covered in thick cloud so we couldn't see the Amphitheater or the summit. Got caught in heavy rain on the way down and was drenched though by the time we got back to camp. " — CraigBurnsStellenbosch • Jan 28, 2023
"Alan, Matthew and I set off from tweede tol parking on Friday afternoon and headed in to the valley. It was beautiful, and we picked a spot to spend the night. The weather was not ideal with a lot of dew and light rain making it not the best conditions for open camping. We set off the next morning towards slanghoekpiek. We reached the summit and then traversed along the cliff ridge and back down forming a loop back towards where we slept. It was a big day out, doing a bout 30km on foot on the Saturday, all the way back to the car. " — Willowskid08 • Nov 13, 2020
"We started off on the Limietberg trail at the "Eerste Tol" on Bainskloof. From there you follow a jeeptrack that used to lead to the 'ghost house' (go read up on the ghost house of Bainskloof for some interesting stories along the way). The jeep track ends about 4km in, from where you will follow a single track. There is one river crossing along the way, which can be thigh deep if there was a lot of rain the days before your hike. Follow the singletrack through a helicopter landing spot as you reach the foot of the mountain and follow the trail up the kloof next to the waterfalls. There are a few pools in which you can swim at the waterfalls. The trail will thin out as you get to the neck of the mountain. There you should keep your eyes open for cairns and make your way to the ridge of Slanghoek and follow the ridge to the top of the mountain." — mcthinusbrink • Jun 13, 2020
"Started from Eerste Tol on Bainskloof, followed the Lietberg route up the valley all the way up the back of the mountain to the peak. I'd recommend only camping on top in winter if you're very experienced in the mountains. Things can get serious very quickly when the cloud blows over and if your boots get wet and freezing. Also make sure you secure your tents properly as gale force winds can crest over the peak without a moments notice. Otherwise if you're prepared for it it's a fun well worth it adventure.
