Started from Windy Pass on a pleasant Monday morning. Headed south on the PCT about 1.8 miles to the Silver Peak trail. Only ran into 2 people on the PCT, one an older gentleman who had started in Oregon and was headed to the Canadian border. Said he had been out for 7 weeks. There seems to be a couple of places to turn onto the Silver Peak trail - I had one marked on my GPS from the software on my computer but there was another one (that I completely missed) about 300 feet before that. I didn't find that one until I walked by it on the way back. The trail is a little rough and steep but not as bad as I expected - it was much easier getting to the top than I thought it would be. There was a couple of interesting places that were nearly vertical that I had to help the dog up but we both managed fairly easily. When we made it to the top, I was surprised to see another couple sitting there. We chatted a bit before they headed back down. Another hiker showed up as we were eating lunch. The view from the top is pretty amazing - 360° and clear enough to see the peak of Mt Adams. On the way back down we passed another couple about halfway down the main peak and another couple farther down the trail. It was a little busier than I thought it would be but all in all a pretty good hike and one I will definitely have to do again.
