"A rather difficult climb due to trail conditions. Near the top there was thick ice which made footing difficult. Ice spikes helped but didn’t guarantee footing. Views atop were great." — drewromesser • Feb 17, 2024
"Tom and I arrived at the trailhead 9:48 am under cloudy and windy skies. Parking area was vacant but for us. Snowshoes up and down. Broke trail to the summit in 54 minutes. Heavy winds on the summit. Took some pics and decended back to car in 27 minutes. Nice morning hike with great views." — garyogden • Jan 14, 2024
"Needed snow shoes..snow was like flour in the sun, plus the steepness...wih the heel lifts it saves your legs. Great views, windy but sun was in and out. Total for round trip 3hours..with lunch and pic taking." — michelekaminsky • Feb 25, 2021
"Had a little time to burn before I left for home so thought I would give this one a go since it would be my completion of the ADK Blue Challenge,, Nice little hike with 907 ft. of elevation gain, Its definitely a good little climb with some not so bad views from its few vantage points ,, Wild Blueberries on the summit bonus" — ramjet1963 • Aug 1, 2019
"Finally a break in the weather, somewhat clear skies and no rain. The past week has been wet and cold, with snow above 2000 feet.
So today we went up Bear Den Mountain over by Whiteface and then after that we hiked up Silver Lake Mountain by Silver Lake. We encountered a little snow on the ground above 2000 feet but outside of that conditions were good sun was out and temps in the upper 30's to low 40's. Great views from both peaks for not too much effort." — hbotc • Nov 4, 2018
"Hiked with a coworker. My first intentional sunrise hike. I’ve had the sun rise & set on me (sometimes in the same day) while hiking, but I’ve never actually sat down at a summit to view either one, so I decided to go out for this little peak to see.
It was flurrying slightly at the start, and the wind was pretty brisk. It was a steady short climb to the top - so short in fact that we passed the summit & didn’t realize it until we started heading downhill. We backtracked and sat down & waited for the sun to rise.
Well, I’m sad to report it was very anticlimactic. It was gray, gray, gray. Maybe next time I’ll get a better one!
There was a nice view though of the snow on the high peaks and of the lake below, so not a total loss.
Where did the additional stats boxes go?
Took about 45 minutes to climb this, and 30 minutes to come back down. 1.8mi round trip, 978’ of gain. " — kellieirene • Oct 25, 2018
"Decided to bag this little beauty after doing 2 Fire Towers. It was n our way home. More difficult than we imagined. But I think that's because we'd already done 2 and were already tired and sore. Great views and overall (if we'd done it by itself) an easy hike." — HikingViking • Jun 25, 2016
"Great mountain hike for little ones but some steep climbs and dangerous cliffs so keep little ones close. Very sorry climb. Great views. Been several times. My 3 legged Boston had no trouble getting up. " — psychobettie77 • Sep 6, 2015
"My 17 year old son and I did this trail and really enjoyed it. It was a last minute (late afternoon) decision but we found it fairly easy with a trail time of about 45 minutes to summit, including some sight seeing (would be tougher for young ones). There is a short steep section at the end over some excellent outcrops. Take your time to enjoy the views along the way as they occur often. For such a short hike the reward is an incredible view. There is a footpath that goes beyond the summit that we followed for a bit but it was 5pm and we needed to get back. We were told it leads to the point at the end so we will be back with an earlier start to try this as well. " — deb-and-rob • Aug 4, 2012
"The first of seven peaks I'd bag while vacationing in the Adirondack Mountains last week. It was a short & fairly steep climb to the top of this 2250' mountain. Good views of the surrounding lakes & the High Peaks." — VonSelmer • Jul 16, 2012
