"I started at 10 AM. Then I went up the Fresno Canyon Trail. It was wide with a fence at first but once past the secret swing it turned overgrown. Then I started seeing great views into Corona and the Inland Empire and eventually passed an old wrecked car. Then I went up a very loose and steep hill. After that I went along the bumps on the ridge and then almost had a rattlesnake jump me. Then after the rattlesnake scare I went up a steeper hill and then summited Fresno Peak (Peak 3010 ft). The views from Fresno Peak (Peak 3010 ft) were great and I could see Orange County for the first time. Then I went up the Main Divide Road to a platform of concrete with an old chair. Then I summited Sierra Peak. The summit had great views of Orange County, the inland Empire and the rest of the Santa Ana Mountains. There was also a benchmark at the summit. Then we went down after a picnic on the top. We didn't run into that rattlesnake again." — lc4441 • May 20, 2023

"Did an out and back hike from Coal Canyon. I visited Grassy Peak and Mini Moab Peak on the way to Sierra Peak. No hikers out here, just the occasional mountain biker zipping along the roads. " — MikeTeeples • Oct 8, 2022

"My hike up to these peaks was very fun. I started on the Santa Ana River Trail. The CA-91 freeway was followed by on the Santa Ana River Trail, but I will call the SART. Then I followed the CA-91 freeway for a mile along the SART until I turned onto the Coal Canyon Trail. I hiked for a while and saw a few benchmarks (3 benchmarks), some great views, and a flat area. Then saw some Tecate Cypress and a gate that was the boundary between the Coal Canyon Ecological Reserve and Chino Hills Regional Park. Then the trail turned steep. Then climbed Mini Moab Peak. Many great views, Picnic Rock, and the summit geocache/register were found on this summit. 2 benchmarks were found to the east of the summit. Then turned on to Leonard Road/ Main Divide TKTR. The trail started to become steep and then went downhill. Then saw a gate that was the boundary between Cleveland NF and Coal Canyon Ecological Reserve. Then it was very steep and then saw a deep and jagged canyon. Then we ascended this steep hill then summited Sierra Peak. The summit has a benchmark and some excellent views. This summit has a very special place in my brain because this is my first ever mountain summit when I hiked this a lo..." — lc4441 • Aug 1, 2022

"Good day for a hike when I left my house, but I think the Santa Ana's picked up while starting the hike; the wind was howling at the top! I mostly had the trail to myself; just passed a few mountain bikers. I parked at the entrance to the Green River Bike Path just past Green River Golf Course and walked the mile along the paved path until I could cross under the 91 Fwy at the old Coal Canyon exit. I elected to take Coal Canyon Road towards the summit, connecting at Leonard Road, then on to the summit. After a few pics in the howling wind, I started down, but this time took the "express" route down Telephone Trail to Pipeline Trail then back to the bike path and to my car. I'm soooooooooo glad I did this counter-clockwise route; coming down Telephone Trail was crazy steep! At times I wondered if I should just glissade down the road/trail. Going up that route would have killed me. " — marc • Nov 23, 2019

"Completed the loop hike which begins in Coal Canyon. I took the Coal Canyon Trail to Leonard Road and then to the summit of Sierra Peak. On the way down I picked up the Pipeline Trail which offered a bit of an express route to the canyon floor. Some flowers are still blooming on the hillsides and there are great views into Chino Hills State Park." — MikeTeeples • Apr 13, 2019
"Moderately strenuous 12.5 mile round trip, 2,600' elevation gain; took Coal Canyon Trail up canyon. Took Leonard Dirt Road, and followed to summit area joining Main Divide Road's north terminus. Lovely hike past beautiful coastal sage scrub, chaparral, and post-fire recovery Tecate Cypress groves (Hesperocyparis forbesii). Most adult trees are gone, but myriad seedlings and saplings are growing lushly. There are still a few adult specimens, a couple even with cones. Also a population of rare Heartleaf Pitcher-Sage (Lepechinia cardiophylla). Trip back down via Pipeline Dirt Road, very steep in spots. I will add photos as I find the files." — brianpowell • Jan 10, 2015
"Rain hike with heavy fog above 2,000'. Hiked the Star Ranch Road past the ranch houses and misc bldgs, farmer let me pass since I was solo and sticking to the road. Found the Pipeline Trail and stayed on that and roads to the fog and antenna covered summit. 10.7 miles r/t w/2,950' gain. TH parking was 0.4 miles past the Green River Village Trailer Park on Green River Road. 1hr 40mins up, 1hr 15mins down." — BradStemm • Dec 16, 2012

"On this trip I was Mountain Biking-Backpacking-Peak Bagging. I was on an overnight trip with my bag on my back while I mountain biked up over peaks and bagging them. Sierra Peak was the 1st on my list as I started from the Santa Ana River and made my way up the coal canyon wildlife corridor onto the main divide road. I remember it being hot as shit on the way up. After the summit I hit hagador peak and then rode back down to Beeks place where I spent the night with a little fire. The following day I moved on to Pleasants Peak. Unfortunately I lost all the pics from this trip." — 1-with-Nature • Feb 24, 2011
