"Parked at a picnic spot in lower Breamish Valley at NT 99415 16453, as ice stopped me driving further up the valley. Hiked up to Hartside, then taking the private road past Alnhammor to the start of the track up the hill at NT 95396 15715. Then followed this track up onto the NE ridge, where it turned SW, winding up nearly to the summit. Non-barbed, easy fence, to scale and then I was on top. Return by outward route. 13.2km with 505m of ascent.
With this hill climbed, I completed the Deweys and Dodds of England.
Bright sunshine; near cloudless skies, but very cold. Ice and snow all the way." — marktrengove2 • Dec 13, 2022
"From Hartside farm via road to Alnhammoor. There I followed a clearly defined track to the bottom of the hill. Then rough ground to the summit of Scaud Knowe before following quad-bike tracks to the summit of Shill Moor. It was windy with about 20mph wind but blue skies with the odd cloud. Descended via a game keeper's track onto quad-bike tracks to the bottom pass some game cages. I crossed the road and continued along track to the ford but found myself trespassing on a private track to Linhope. Met with the official footpath to Linhope Spout before returning to Hartside. "After the wet summer to date, it was good to have a reasonable day for a local walk. We parked near the remote farmhose at Ewalty Shank, and walked NE on the old byway called Salters Road. After going through the forest we dropped down to the Shank burn and then up to Little Dod and on to the top of the pass. Here we cut off the track and headed N over rough ground up on to the summit plateau and then NW to the summit, where there were good views of the surrounding hills. Aftere a brief stop in the shelter by the summit cairn, we headed N down steeply to the Breamish valley, over rough pathless ground. At the bottom we picked up a good track W then SW to the remote Low Bleakhope farm, where we rejoined Salters Rd waking SE over the pass and back to our start point" — davidlong • Jul 17, 2012
