"My wife & I climbed up Sharp Top Mountain, the trail was covered the entire way in fresh snow & ice depths from 6” to 2 feet near the peak. We climbed creating fresh treks to follow down. With the 30-50mph gusts at the peak, the forecast with Beaufort scale, notable felt like -16°F. It was cold. We descended a-little later than we planned. Following the path we made into near complete darkness. It was slippery coming down, but by the grace of God we got down safely. Coming down we saw a cross in the sky, the setting sun flaring up towards the clouds along the far horizon." — stefandereczyk • Dec 11, 2025
"A slow hike with Luke on account of our birdwatching and plant identifications. The biodiversity on this mountain is incredible with many species of warblers and dense layers of flora. A beautiful day with spectacular views. This was Luke's first time up this iconic peak. " — runshigleyrun • Jun 6, 2025
"A sluggish hike to conclude my trail run on a hot summer day. A Butterfinger ice cream in one hand and a cold Mountain Dew in the other as I climbed. Wildlife was out in full effect as deer munched on plants along the trail and butterflies were found everywhere on wildflowers. This hike always surprises me by its difficulty. Short, but dang it's steep. " — runshigleyrun • Jul 28, 2021
"How could I not hike a mountain in an area called the Peaks of Otter. And Sharp Top was quite prominent. Humid day but a nice hike up from the Blue Ridge Parkway. Great views on the summit overlooking the area. Also had a park ranger at the summit as well." — newenglandwarrior • Jun 12, 2016
"Dropped off my ex-wife in L'burg for work and I ran up all three Peaks of Otter with the freshest legs. Felt phenomenal. I think I may have weirded out the Park Ranger with my antics, but it was a tremendous day. " — runshigleyrun • May 17, 2012
