"I hiked Sawtooth S on the last day of a 3-day backpacking trip along the PCT in the Owens Peak Wilderness. This is a tough hike up the forested ridge followed by a short scramble to the top of the summit block. A little bushwhacking through oak, but it can mostly be avoided. Unobstructed 360 degree views of the entire region from the top. Register goes back to 1966 with fragments that go back to 1957.
After, I hiked down to Chimney Creek CG looking to hitch a ride back to my car at Walker Pass but found the CG closed and deserted (on Memorial Day! Damn BLM...) After waiting for about an hour with no luck I grabbed by pack and hiked about 3.5 mi north along the Chimney Creek Trail. It's a little overgrown, but can be followed without too much trouble to an open meadow and cow-camp. From there, a dirt road leads to Nine Mile Canyon Rd where I was able to hitch a ride with no problem. An excellent adventure!" — klotito • May 29, 2017

"It was hot today. Really wish I had finished this mountain sooner. Thankfully on this attempt there was clouds and a fair breeze. Both attempts I was unable to find the route in J.C. Jenkins book while climbing up. Found out the first time I was going up the way he recommended going down! I actually found the proper trail on my way back to the campground and have since put up 3 sets of cairns near it so it won't be missed. Turns out the route I took today was 20 feet away from the actual trail off the PCT! The route I took to summit was by following and wrapping around the Sierra crest and the highpoints on the way to Sawtooth peak itself. Needless to say I was beat by the time I finally got up.
Reading the registry (which goes back to 1966) I found out that many people are quite ambitious on routes they take to this peak. One guy biked from Ridgecrest to Short Canyon, walked up the canyon, then hit the summit. Insanity." — Irrationalist • May 4, 2013

"Wanted to kick off my time in Bakersfield with a few SPS peaks! Nothing like getting on the Sierra Crest in January! This peak averages between 15-20 people a year and the last time this peak was climbed was October of last year. The summit register was dated back to 1966!" — Christopher • Jan 19, 2013
